About the Okanagan Ballet Theatre
Okanagan Ballet Theatre (OBT) is dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of the Okanagan region and beyond through the art of dance. The organization is committed to fostering a deep appreciation for classical ballet, modern, and flamenco dance by presenting captivating public performances and offering comprehensive educational programs.

Our Mission
At its core, OBT aims to advance the public’s appreciation of the arts. This is achieved through the production of high-quality dance performances that showcase both timeless classics and innovative new works. A central part of our mission is to preserve and promote the rich traditions of ballet, modern, and flamenco dance within Kelowna and the surrounding areas. We are dedicated to providing Canadian artists with a platform to practice their craft and to making dance accessible to all members of the community.
What We Do:
Okanagan Ballet Theatre’s activities are designed to engage the community at multiple levels:
Performances
OBT produces classical ballet performances each year, including the beloved winter tradition, The Nutcracker, in collaboration with local dance schools. The 2025 season will feature productions such as Giselle and a collaboration with Opera Kelowna for La Traviata. Performances are held at various venues, including the Rotary Centre for the Arts and the Kelowna Community Theatre.
Education and Training
A key focus for OBT is the development of the next generation of dancers. The organization offers a comprehensive Trainee Program for emerging professional dancers, running annually from August to May. Additionally, community workshops and open classes are held periodically, providing opportunities for dancers of all ages and skill levels to learn and grow.
Community Outreach
OBT is committed to making the arts accessible to underserved populations. This is achieved through initiatives such as offering reduced-price tickets, free shows, and educational outreach programs for schools. The daytime school programs provide affordable tickets for students and free admission for accompanying teachers and volunteers.
Our History and Future
While the society’s constitution was ratified on October 1st, 2024, OBT has a history of past performances, including “Ballet Artistico” in October and The Nutcracker in December of 2024, with tours to Vernon and Penticton. The organization has also hosted workshops with distinguished guests like Evelyn Hart, Fiona Malena, and Lesley Telford.
Looking ahead, OBT plans to expand its reach with tours to Vernon and Penticton, and eventually to other communities across British Columbia, subject to funding. A three-year strategic plan is in development to guide the company’s artistic vision, ensure financial sustainability, and deepen community engagement.
Our People
Okanagan Ballet Theatre is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who assist with various aspects of our productions and operations. The artistic heart of the company is our roster of talented salaried dancers, choreographers, and our esteemed Artistic Director. Priority is given to hiring local professionals from British Columbia and across Canada.
